The book by Edward McNulty, Praying the Movies is a wee gem discovered whilst randomly trawling through Amazon.
Each chapter a meditation based around a different film, it explores themes of grace drawing parallels with suggested biblical passages and giving opportunity to tease out what images and understandings we can from both film and text. The movies (31 in total) included in his list are varied in genre and BBFC classification, from Babe to The Deer Hunter, Star Wars to To kill a Mocking Bird. For storytelling in a modern age, for understanding the way stories (whether contemporary or biblical) speak to our psyche and challenge our understanding of various issues, it is a must 🙂
whilst on the subject of movies and faith – who has my copy of Stardust and Ashes???
