Dinner and Dosh for Malawi

Friday night’s fundraiser (4 course meal, flowing alcohol and good company) raised over £500, to be split between African Steps and the Zomba Children’s Project.

African Steps works to improve healthcare on Likoma Island, in Lake Malawi. The Island has a basic hospital: St Peter’s, which serves the 10,000 people living on Likoma and approximately 70,000 people who live in nearby Mozambique and Tanzania.

The Zomba Children’s Project was initially set up by a handful of nurses in Zomba Central Hospital to support the children of health care workers left orphaned by HIV/Aids. This is seen as a pilot project in Zomba and will be introduced to other areas if successful. It is planned as a 4 year initiative and will become sustainable through self-generating income.  It is part of the Scotland-Malawi Partnership.

Hopefully I’ll have the photos up in a day or so
